strategy
A board will determine its college strategies.
It will ensure that the college strategy is aligned with its vision and mission, and that it takes into account national and regional requirements.
Board members may take advice from others – for example, specialist consultants and stakeholders – but, ultimately, they will make the big decisions that affect the future direction of the college.
Factors that may influence a strategy could include issues such as:
- the external environment calls for a rethink over ...
- there is an opportunity for a refocus and look at new ...
- there is a need to analyse and evaluate whether the organisational capacity and capability exists to ...
- specific local, regional and national factors have been taken into account in developing the college strategy.
The board will also examine its strategy to see if it is a cohesive whole and the strategic plan underpinned by:
- a realistic three-year financial forecast
- a property strategy that enhances the quality of provision for learners
- a human resource (HR) strategy aimed at recruiting, developing and retaining a highly qualified college workforce
- an effective Information, Learning and Communication Technology (ILCT) strategy
- annual estimates of income and expenditure, which enable strategic aims to be met
- a capital expenditure programme that is affordable and links to overall strategy.
