self regulation the rewards

self-regulation: the rewards

Self-regulation can bring a number of attractive medium and long-term prospects for colleges and other providers, including:

  • by early intelligence and effective intervention, the avoidance of periodic crises of confidence in the system as a whole (with its ensuing bad publicity), caused by difficulties experienced by individual providers
  • being seen to respond positively to government strategy and concerns, and to the LSC Agenda for Change by taking responsibility both for the delivery of radically improved quality and for the eradication of poor provision throughout the FE system
  • aligning quality and accountability processes within the system with those of the inspectorates and funding bodies, within an overarching national Improvement Strategy and Framework for Excellence
  • releasing to the front line the considerable resources currently spent on exceptional funding support and external consultancy
  • releasing to the front line a significant proportion of the considerable resources currently devoted to external regulation
  • enabling rationalisation of the many separate agencies and bodies now involved with inspection and quality improvement activities
  • building a new relationship with government, business and the wider community - to achieve a transformation in the credibility, trust and regard in which colleges are held and in the self-confidence of the whole system
  • empowering colleges and other providers to design the regulation systems of the future.
